Going to Berlin next week - Has anyone been to the Reichstag Dome in Berlin? I'm so glad I found out I had to make a reservation ahead of time and did just that. But my question is - can you make another reservation? I think I'd like to go back again... is it ok to reserve online another date with your same name/info? On another note - I love photography and would like to take good pictures while there. Are you allowed to take a tripod and nice camera into the Dome to take pictures? I can't find any info on if it's allowed or not. Thank you for your help/advice!
Pam
Perhaps things have changed since I was there in 2009, but at that time no reservation was necessary to go up to the dome. Perhaps it is now required, or you are also getting a tour of the Reichstag itself. And maybe a reservation is simply a way to avoid the long lines. Cameras were fine to bring, it is a tourist observation point. But tripods might be iffy, most places don't allow them. If you are taking a tour of the facility too, check on the camera and tripod policy as it may be different than the dome alone.
Yes things have changed and you need a reservation just to get in. Which is why I'm asking the question if you can make 2 reservations under the same name within a 3 day period or if that's prohibited.
And yes, I know tripods are 'iffy' and haven't found any info on it - that's why I was asking to see if someone has been there recently with a tripod and if they had any issues...
Pam,
I did not go into the dome (reservation request totally ignored!) but security looked pretty tight to me. I think a camera would be ok, but I'd leave the tripod behind. Perhaps Sarah or Harold or one of the Berlin experts might be of more assistance.
ok thank you! I'm thinking they may not allow tripods either (esp a big sturdy one that I have). With that said - then I would like to change or add my reservation to go during the day (my first reservation is late afternoon/night) and won't be good for handheld photos. Wonder if I can make a 2nd reservation?
Thanks!
I just visited the Reichstag in May. You can definitely take a camera. When you arrive, you go through airport style security (metal detector, bag x-rayed). I don't know about the tripod, but I think someone asked that question recently on tripadvisor's Berlin forum. You might search there.
Why don't you try just making a second reservation? If it's not allowed, I would think it just wouldn't take it. I don't see any harm in trying it.
Hey Pam, I'm leaving for Berlin for next week as well! I have my Reichstag Dome tickets also. I'm not sure about pre booking two different visits at once. I would book my second visit when I showed up for my first one. Enjoy your trip!
Thanks all! Hey Jeremy maybe I'll see ya! :) My res is Monday at 6:30p - I hear the sunset from there is nice. I did see that you can try to get a reservation while at the Reichstag, so I'll try that when I get there.
Thanks again!
Not sure about the tripod - there is nothing on the website that says for sure. I would consider emailing or calling them directly to ask: [email protected]
+49 (0)30 227-32152 or +49 (0)30 227-35908 There will be someone available who speaks English. As for the second reservation, I would just go ahead and make it online. There's nothing to indicate that you're limited to one visit in a certain amount of time!
Yes, I've tried twice over the past week to email them at that address and no response - which is why I was asking. No worries - I'll figure it out when I get there! :)
Thank you!
Hi, Pam. This is the email address that I received my confirmation from in May [email protected]. You might try that one. Have you gotten your confirmation along with "Information for Visitors", although, it is still not clear to me from that. When we went in May, we could have gotten in same day without reservations and not had to wait too long, but you take your chances. Everyone was extremely helpful and they were very responsive via email beforehand. I think there would be no problem making the 2nd reservation and if there is, then they'll tell you. Lots of opportunity to take pictures in the dome, but per their info for visitors, they can't be for commercial use and also strongly suggested not to bring metal items (although your tripod is probably plastic).
