Berlin Help

OK. I decided to spend 4 days in berlin because....I heard Berlin is big. Anyways, I'm looking through lonely planet for things to do. I'm planning on doing museums in paris so I'll be burned on that (although I hear there is a ramones museum!)
I plan on seeing the 'sights' and would like to visit the schazenhauzen? camp. Nazi sights are of interest. Interested in spending time in Prenzlauer because it is supposedly cool and LGBT friendly area. I could use suggestions on things to do. Thanks!

I love Berlin. Just walking around and taking in the history and atmosphere is good enough for me. Don't miss the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. I would rethink the "no museum" idea; I think the museums in Berlin (Pergamon, Checkpoint Charlie, Jewish) are more interesting than the museums in Paris. Walking down Unter den Linden and the Kurfurstendamn is fun. You can't go wrong.

If you do one of the many walking or bike tours on offer in Berlin, you will discover all kinds of great places, as well as fasicnating historical facts. Do a general tour on your first day so you can get a good orientation for the city and then you can ask the tour guides for more recommendations. All of them offer not only a general overview tour of Berlin, but 3rd Reich Tours, Cold War tours, and tours out to Sachsenhausen and Potsdam.

The main tour companies are Insider Tours, Original Berlin Walks, Fat Tire Bike tours, and Brewers. All will give you a high quality tour for 12 €, with the tours out to Sachsenhausen and Potsdam being a bit more, plus the cost of your train ticket.

I think you will find anywhere you go in Germany to be LGBT friendly. It is just not an issue here.

That's awesome. I'm travelling on serious skimpy budget. I heard that you can get discount FAT tire tickets at the TV tower is this true? I want to bike around a bit, I'm not a big guided tour person. I think it's like 10 euro a day for one. I would like to see the tiergarten area. Thanks all!

ITA with Jo, but especially Berlin. You don't need to worry about any major tourist areas of Berlin and LGBT. It is a very cosmopolitan city, and very open minded.

You should strongly consider MuseumInsel in Berlin. Its near the Brandenburg Gate and is an island of several museums including the one containing the Nefertiti bust. I believe if you go after 6 on a Thursday evening, its free which is better than paying for each museum separately.

Sorry ...forgot to add that you might want to visit Spandau and Potsdam.
