I'm arriving around lunchtime in Salzburg. I'm hoping to spend the afternoon going to Berchtesgaden or Untersberg. It's like a choice between WWII history and the Sound of Music :-)
Which has the better view ? I only have time for 1 since next day will be going around Salzburg.
If you are arriving at noon, I assume you will check into your hotel first before heading to one of these venues. By bus or train, it will take about an hour to get to Berchtesgaden. I have been to two WWII sites in Berchtesgaden, Kehlsteinhaus and the Dokumentation Center. In my opinion, by the time you get to either, you won't have time to see it with any quality. Pity.
Stay in Salzburg and go up the Untersberg.
Remember everything in Germany closes early too. I think you need more time.
Thanks all! Untersberg is part of the Salzburg card too. I just might go to Salzburg in the pm, then go to Untersberg in the morning.
