Berchtesgaden area Gasthaus

My family will be in the Berchtesgaden area in the first week on April this year. We are really having a hard time finding a place to stay. We have contacted several places so far, as many as we could find online actually. Problem is almost every one we have contacted is either closed during the week we are there or they have not replied to our messages. We have 3 so far that have replied, so I wanted to list them to see if anyone has any experience with any of them. Gasthof Gebirgshausl Gasthof Waldluft Pension Berganemone I would appreciate any insight or experience with any of the these. It wil be just my wife, myself, and our 4 year old daughter on this trip. Thanks,
Shaun

In 2002, I stayed at Gästehaus Alpina in Berchtesgaden. It's now under new management, so I can't comment on that aspect, but it was comfortable, the price is right, and the location very favorable (~½ km from the Hbf). The train track into the Berchtesgaden Hauptbahnhof goes along the road in front of the house, but there are no trains from 11:32 to 6:20 and only one train into the Hbf and one out from 10:22 to 7:07 (almost 9 hours). I wrote to them (in German) a few months ago to ask if I could recommend them to Americans who only spoke English, but never got a reply. If you are interested, write to the email address on the site. If they answer, then you know language is not a problem. Note: when requesting information about price and availability, make that clear, or they might think you are asking for a reservation. I have complete confidence in German hosts, and I would not hesitate to book any of the places you mention. Are you arriving with the train or will you have a car? Of the three, the first one, Waldluft, looks like it is right behind the Spa and might not be too long a walk to town. And there is a bus stop at the Therme (Spa). Gebirgshausl is on the road to Ramsau, and there is a bus, but I don't know how far the place is from a bus stop. According to the Bahn website, to get to Berganemone, you take a bus but it is a 21 min walk from the bus stop to Berganemone. BTW, this is one of two identical posts. You should go in and delete the other one.

I have this strange habit of taking pictures, for future reference, in towns I go through of places that look like someplace where I might like to stay. In 2000 I took a picture of Hotel Grünberger. As I remember, it's across the Ramsauer Ache (river) from the road in front of the Hbf. Very convenient location.

Good memory. That is the place and maybe a two minute walk across the river from the Hbf.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. After many phone calls we finally were able to book this morning! We will be staying at Gasthof Gebirgshaeusl. We read fantastic reviews and when we called they were very nice and helpful, so we are excited to have all of our accommodations finally completed. On to planning daily activities!
Thanks again! Shaun

Hi Shaun,
My daughter and I stayed at Pension Berganemone in 2003. The price at that time was more important than location because we had a car. The room was average.. clean, etc. and so was the breakfast. I might consider staying again. I stayed at Haus Heidi this last September which is in Berchtesgaden and really loved it because it was a great price, wonderful breakfast, view of The Eagles Nest, great location to walk into town and Heidi and her husband are just wonderful ! Plus the neighbors have goats :)

Shaun, I visited the area last summer. I love the area. My suggestion is this family's pension run out of their house. It was like I was staying with my family, and the views are so surreal. I could look out my window and see the Eagle's Nest every day. Their pension looks over the city in the valley. http://www.pension-kropfleiten.de/
