WE are a senior couple traveling on somewhat of a limited budget but not hostelers. Any idea of a place to stay in Berchtesgarden?
Patricia
The regional tourist office there will have many options. You can use the page that follows; click on "list of accommodations" at the right. There are dozens and dozens of places with descriptions in English, links to homepages, etc. Apartments (Fewos) are usually inexpensive and offer more room. http://en.berchtesgadener-land.com/en/live/ennavi/parser,id,63,nodeid,.html
Last year we stayed here http://www.fewoederhaus.de/lg_fewoederhaus/english_ederhaus.html
it is an apartment right by the city center, it a was super clean, and very nice place, the owners are extremely nice, it was the best place we stayed in our 3 weeks in Germany. Quite cheap we paid 70 euros for a bigger apartment.
Hi Patricia, We stayed at Gastehaus Gute Fahrt last September - it is a 1 star bed and breakfast run by a lovely couple, Herr and Frau Stocker. I think my husband and I paid 62 euro per night including breakfast for the two of us...the room was basic, but comfortable and spotlessly clean, with ensuite bath, nice warm duvets and double paned windows which kept all the road noise out. We had a room facing the main street (Bergwerkstrasse)with a balcony - and couldn't hear the road noise at all with the windows closed. Frau Stocker speaks English pretty well - Herr Stocker speaks no english but they were warm hosts - we got to choose what time we wanted breakfast each day and breakfast was plentiful and very fresh! The location is on the main street which runs just along the river, about 1/2 mile north from the train station. Once we parked our car (easy parking right next to the house) we walked everywhere, except for the day we went to the Konigsee. We LOVED Berchtesgaden - if you haven't been before, it is beautiful. Here is the website in german http://www.stocker-gutefahrt.de/index.htm and another page with english info... http://www.berchtesgaden.de/de/haus-gute-fahrt-stocker. You can email Frau Stocker in English - their daughter comes in each day to help them with answering emails. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
We have stayed several times at Hotel Bavaria, which is fairly pricey but very nice, and the breakfast buffet is without equal. If you are traveling by train it is a short distance from the bahnhof (a bit uphill, as is everything in B'gaden). The restaurant is reasonable and quite good. No problem there with speaking English. Website is www.hotelbavaria.net. The town and surroundings are beautiful and 3 days is not too long to stay there. The bus takes you on a short and scenic drive for a day-trip to Salzburg. You are in for a treat!
Hi Patricia, I don't know if these will be of use to you, they're both just outside of Berchtesgaden: This is about 10 minutes from Berchtesgaden: www.mayringerlehen.de This is about 3 minutes from Berchtesgaden: www.friedwiese.de/enska/isl.htm Both are excellent places to stay. Very friendly/helpful hosts, good buffet breakfasts, nice rooms and teriffic views of the Alps. Paul
We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED www.mayringerlehen.de We were the only Americans (which we enjoyed) very nice, clean, place with great breakfast served by Johann (?) in his lederhosen. Great people run the place (family run) and only a few rooms. Our favorite place on our 4 week trip! Beautiful area. We would never have known of the place if it weren't for Paul in NYC...Thanks Paul!
Hi Susan and Monte! It's going to be tougher to get a room there if this keeps up!
Shh...Ok Paul, let's not tell anyone else. I want to make sure we can book a room when we go back!
