We have one more slot to fill in our July itinerary to Belgium. I am looking for some feedback on cities in the Wallonia region of the country as I think I have Flanders pretty well covered. I've tentatively narrowed it down to the following: Namur(possibly combined with Dinant) Durbuy Bouillon
Tournai Besides Bouillon, they all seem accessible for a good daytrip. I had to include Bouillon because the history is so interesting but it looks harder to get to. Are there other cities I've neglected? Thanks for all your help, Bill
I love Brugges!!!!!!!
Namur is really a place to visit.
Durbuy is scenic but tiny. If you're not going kayaking (Durbuy is known for this), it will take less than an hour to visit. The town is also difficult to reach without a car. Namur and Dinant are easy to combine, because they sit on the same rail line. Dinant also won't take long to explore. If you'll have a car, you can also consider a side-trip to the monastery of Mared Sous, known for its beer and cheese. I have not visited Tournai or Bouillon, so I can't comment. One final note to the forum- notice that Bill says " I think I have Flanders pretty well covered", so this probably implies that he has already included Brugge in his plans.
I've only been to Tournai, but is was a nice day trip, and the almost complete lack of visitors was an interesting contrast to Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels (mind you, I liked these too). I did find much less English in Tournai than in those other towns, so if you don't speak at least survival French, you may not have a pleasant visit.
