Beer tasting

I would like some suggestions for a trip from Bamberg to Munich stopping at a few breweries on the way.

I don't know if you can visit the brewery, but in Bamberg, be sure to try their unique Rauchbier- "smoked beer".

We stopped at the Klosterbräu Brewery in Bamberg.

I had a Weiss Bier. The brewery was recommended by our cab driver. In December, we were the only tourists in the place and shared a table with a German couple that had finished their meal and were playing dominoes.

Beer was very good. Food was okay. Atmosphere was relaxed and not touristy.

The place has a history:

My favorite was the Spezial Keller. It is on the top of a hill with great views of the city. Good food to. Klosterbrau is nice to. Rauchbier is definetley a love it or hate it beer but you have to try it. Bamberg is a great city! Ask at the TI booth for the key to the tower for great views.

Between Bamberg and München (Munich) lies Regensburg, one of my favorite towns in Germany. We went to the Kneitinger Brauerei. Good Beer and quite good food as well.

Look under Gaststätten. When we were there, it appear a local hangout for men escaping from (or ban by) their wives. There was smoking in the place that I imagine is no longer allowed.

There were also couples and at least one largish party. Again, consistent with German tradition, we were seated with a German couple. No other tourists to my knowledge.

Regensburg, like Bamberg, is a UNESCO World Heritage sight and a great stop.
