If you can get your hands on a glass of Palm beer you'll think you are in beer heaven. Generically, its a "brown" beer.

"If you can get your hands on a glass of Palm beer you'll think you are in beer heaven. Generically, its a "brown" beer" My wife is very fond of Palm... but it's a Belgian beer, not German. On a hot day, Hefeweizen or Radler for me.

Lol, great video. And cute guy! Going to Munich this Saturday to go dirndl shopping with girlfriends, they are insisting we stop at the Hofbrauhaus for a bit (yawn) but maybe he'll be there. Something to look forward to. ;)

Hmm, now that I've watched the video, maybe it's time that I bought an iPad. And Sarah... yes, the Hofbrauhaus is touristy, but that doesn't mean it isn't awesome!

I don't mind stopping at the Hofbrauhaus for a beer or two, it's when people want to party the whole night away there - or eat there - that I get a little irritated. Maybe it's just because I haven't yet been to Munich without having to go! To me it's like having to take visitors to Pier 39 in San Francisco. Sure it can be fun but there's better ways to spend your time in the city, particularly on your fourth, or fifth, or sixth visit!

I avoid Pilsner because it's what you can get at home. Krolsch beer is local to Cologne, but tastes a lot like pilsner to me (probably sacrilege to say it). I like Hefeweizen and Bock but mostly try what others are drinking - usually the local favorite. You may be asked whether you want helles or dunkels. Helles is light colored (not lite beer) and dunkels is dark.

The best beer I ever had in Europe was a paulaner in an Italian resteraunt next to out hotel in Munich!
