I have been through all of Rick's recommendations and was wondering if readers had any good recommendations for bed and breakfasts in the Avignon area. Preferably something that is close to both the TGV station and the city. Many thanks.
We stayed at the Hotel Colbert. Very nice and very reasonable. Highly rated by both RS and Tripadvisor. However, breakfast was extra for us. Perhaps they have a rate that includes breakfast. The hotel is down a narrow alley about 3 blocks from the Gare d'Avignon Centre train station. Very convenient. Note that the Gare Avignon TGV station is not in the city center. It's actually 25-30 minutes away by connecting bus or Regionale train.
I'm currently looking into B & B's for my driving tour around France... This is a site I am using for Provence >> http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/vaucluse/avignon/bb.htm ... Another one I have bookmarked but not looked into >> ... http://www.provence-resa.com/z513_uk-.aspx ...
Have Fun !!
Teresa, not to plug the Hotel Colbert but it's one block from a major multi-story underground parking garage. True it costs about 24Euro/day to park there but you won't find street parking anywhere. Plus, anything you can find is metered. We had a rental car and used the hotel and garage as our base for visiting Provence.
We had 3 days at a wonderful B & B - Le Clos du Rempart in Avignon. We didn't have a car, but I'm sure there was provision for off street parking. Owner Aida is a delightful hostess.
Martin, are you picking up or dropping off a car at the TGV station? If so, I would look for a B&B just outside the city, in a more rural setting - which is where the real charm of Provence is, IMO. One suggestion is the Jardin de Bacchus B&B in nearby Tavel (the owners speak English very well).
