We have only one full day in Beaune and would like to do a wine tour.Rick mentions Wine Safari but they only offer 1 tasting. Has anyone had experience with any other tours? It seems that renting a car without a DD would be foolish.Any thoughts? Thanks,Annemarie
With only one full day, I would actually stay in Beaune and visit the Marche Aux Vins and Caves des Cordeliers for wine tastings, tour Beaune (the Hospice, the wine museum and just wander the town. If you have your heart set on touring wineries, I will email my sister for recommendations. She lived near Dijon for 18 months and did quite a bit of touring and took lots of guests to Beaune (me included!).
There is a domaine in Aloxe-Corton, 3 miles from Beaune, that offers a tasting lunch that I found fabulous. You get lunch and a flight of Burgundies; which ones depends on which menu you order.
You can drive there, or hire a cab--heck, you can walk, it's so close--but I'd rent a bicycle.
I had a very nice tour at Bouchard Pere et Fils. It's beautiful and the Chateau is actually a part of the ramparts that make up the walled town of Beaune. I don't know how difficult it is to set up a tour there, as it was done for me by a local barrel maker. But it was a very enjoyable tour and tasting. Included in the tour is a visit to their musuem, displaying a collection of wines dating back to the 19th century. Plus you are right there in Beaune, to continue on to wander the town and visit the Hospice, Marche aux Vins, museum, etc. as Nancy suggests above.
