After completing the Rick Steves' Paris and South of France in 15 Days tour, we are spending an extra day in Nice. Then we will rent a car and spend two days in Vaison la Romaine. We will then drive to Paris for a final two days before flying home. Between Provence and Paris we have two days to spend either in Beaune or Lyon. If it was you, which would you choose?
If you want 2000 years of history, some of the best cuisine in France in a large city environment, then Lyon. If you would prefer a much smaller town, then Beaune. Lyon is France's 3rd largest city but is also peaceful and manageable. These are both worthwhile but very different.
I would choose Beaune. There is a fantastique small resturant called Ma Cuisine. It is a charming small town, with a wonderful open market.
