BCN beaches

My 18yo son and I will be in BCN mid July and want to go the beach. We may do a Fat Tire Bike Tour that ends up at the beach, but we also want to go hang out one day. Is the beach in BCN nice or should we venture further east towards France for a nice small town beach experience? Anyone been to the coast in that area?

The beach is sandy and was clean. I didn't hang out there, but I did go check it out. The beaches in France just over the Spanish border (Collioure and Banyuls Sur Mer) are rocky. Since you are going to be in Barcelona anyway, why not have your beach day there?

It's really confusing to use airport identifiers for a city abbreviation. It makes it look like you're looking for a beach at El Prat.

Yes, are you talking about Barcelona? If so, I thought the beaches were okay. The sand isn't powdery but it is sand, not rock or crushed coral. The beaches, in a series of crescent shapes, are big and wide enough for many people to get sun. The water isn't clear or beautiful but it didn't seem gross either. We walked from the end of the Ramblas up to where the fish looking statue was and it wasn't bad. If I wanted a nicer beach, I'd probably take a train up to Arenys de Mar (I think 7 euros each way) or similar community on the Costa Brava.

Hi Stephen - I would definitely recommend a trip to the beach in Barcelona. I hung out at the beach last summer with my 24 year old niece and we enjoyed it. Great people watching and nice to walk the length of the beach area to see the sculptures.

I found the beach quite nice yet also very crowded. The water was quite warm and nice for swimming in Sept so I imagine it will be in July as well. They have locker/shower/bathroom facilities where you can store valuables that's really handy as well. It's not the most beautiful beach in the world, but it's IN Barcelona, and there aren't that many major European city destinations that can boast having a great beach right in town.
