any charming,small inexpensive hotels or inns in bayeux or the surrounding area? most travel sights only offer chains.

Lots of good recommendations in Rick Steves' France guide. Our favorite...Hotel D'Argouges. They don't have a website but you can e-mail them at [email protected]

Le Bayeux is a charming, though not luxurious place. They are very accommodating (they even did our laundry for us, for a small fee), and it is centrally located one block from the cathedral. We recommend it highly.

We have recently made reservations with Hotel D'Argouges. They do have a WEB site.
We will be there June 10th and June 11th.

The hotel Reine Mathilde is a nice place across the street from the cathedral and a 1 minute walk to the buses for the day dtip for Battlebus and other tour companies. http://www.hotel-reinemathilde.com/
