can anyone recommend inexpensive accommodations in Bayeux? I think traveling with 2 can be cheaper at a hotel rather than a hostel. Any recommendations welcomed for a mother/daughter 3 week traveling adventure!
Rick lists several good choices. We stayed at Hotel Mogador and were very pleased. The owner was very helpful and attentive. Hotel Bayeux is also a good choice I believe. Check out reviews on Tripadvisor.
Karen, I've also stayed at Hotel Mogador and would absolutely recommend it. The reservation system was a bit "quirky" (this may have improved in the last few years) and the owner was great! Hotel Churchill is also a beautiful Hotel for those with a slightly higher travel budget. Happy travels!
We've stayed at Hotel D'Argouges in Bayeux 6 times, we really love it. It's in the heart of town but set back from the street. It's like a manor house with lovely gardens, beautiful interior. The owner and staff are wonderful. Great breakfast. Large rooms, large bathrooms, very clean. They also have parking if you need that.
A few years ago we stayed at Le Lion d'Or and loved it www.lionor-bayeux.fr
If you have your own car, check out www.bandbnormandie.com. We've stayed there, about 10 from Bayeux, just outside Villers-Bocage.
Karen, I can also recommend the Hotel D'Argouges. I stayed there 2 years ago in the ivy-covered building next to the manor house. The room was very nice (large, clean) and breakfast was good (better than the standard fare). The location is very convenient, right off the main street with shops and restaurants. I hope you enjoy your trip to France!
We stayed at Le Tardif, Noble Guest House. You can check it out on bookingcom and read the reviews. We got the least costly room for two and it was very large and beautifully furnished with a modern bathroom. The hotel is set in lovely gardens with car parking and it is very close to the Bayeux Tapestry and the Cathedral. Not sure what inexpensive is or when you'll be travelling. It seems you have to make reservations well in advance to get vacant rooms and the best prices. Good luck!
This past Sept we spent 3 nights at Hotel de Ste. Croix which is across from Place Patrice. Lovely large rooms, parking and great breakfasts.
When I visited the D-Day beaches I stayed at a nice place in Bayeux called the Hotel Reine Mathilde, it is centrally located, very close to the pickup point for the tours (if you;re taking one) and free parking if you have the car. It is ranked number 2 on tripadvisor for hotels in Bayeux. http://www.hotel-bayeux-reinemathilde.fr/
Hotel de Ste. Croix
We stayed at Hotel d'Argouges in 2009 and absolutely loved it! The staff were wonderful, the rooms were delightfuand very comfortable, the wine and hors d'oeuvres in the garden were fabulous and the breakfast was superbe!
But if cost is an issue, we also stayed in 2010 at the Hotel Reine Mathilde. Although we didn't find it nearly as comfortable or enjoyable as d'Argouges, it was available and the lower price was a bonus. (d'Argouges and Churchill were already closed for the seasonthe first week in November.
