My husband and I are planning a 6 week trip to Europe this summer, with our three kids, ages 4, 7 and 10. We would like to end the trip with 4-5 days in Bavaria. We like the idea of staying at a farmhouse in the countryside. We have found the appropriate websites, but there are so many listings, we are looking for some personal recommendations. We need a place that can sleep 5, and would like to hike in the alps, ride gondolas and luges, swim in lakes, ride horses, etc. We will have a car, and will be coming from Salzburg. We will fly out of Munich after this stay, so are looking at the area south of Munich. If anyone has stayed at and can recommend a farmhouse (or an area where we enjoy the German Alps without feeling overly crowded with tourists) we'd love to hear from you.
Something on the outskirts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Mittenwald might suit your needs. The towns themselves will probably contain more than a few tourists (and you're unlikely to be completely alone on the mountain trails), but you should find something away from the town centers.

Hi Rosemary,
We stayed twice (Oct '06 and Oct. '07) at a wonderful place in Ramsau, 15 minutes from Berchtesgaden and Konigsee. It's called the Mayringerlehen, run by 2 of the nicest people anywhere. They run a farm with cows, horses, a llama and even have 3 mountain goats in their front yard.

Thank you all for your input. We are still considering the options, so if anyone else out there has any more suggestions, we'd love to hear them!
