Bavaria Alps Itinerary

Hi all, I'm going to visit Bavaria Apls in this September. I will have one week. My planned itinerary is : Munich: 2 days Herrenchiemsee: 1 day (day trip from Munich) Fussen: 1 day Round Trip Füssen - Wies Church – Oberammergau – Ettal – Linderhof Palace - Füssen: 1 day (day trip from Fussen)
Munich: 1day (Oktoberfest) The round trip idea is suggested in Fussen tourist website but I'm not sure how long does it take to do the round trip. I search the distance between places and they seem not be very far away from each other. Do you think it's a good idea to do this round trip? In the round trip, they also suggest a stop in plansee lake but I think it's too much for one day. I rather spend time in forgennsee lake in fussen. Can we bath in forgennsee lake? I couldn't find out any bathing area around forgennsee lake except the port for boat trips. Thanks for the help. Nhan

Nhan, Your proposed Itinerary sounds a bit ambitious for such a short time frame (it appears that your trip is only about one week?). The Füssen round trip seems especially "busy". Our resident Germany expert is in Germany at the moment, but I'm sure he will have some good suggestions to offer. Happy travels!

The Füssen roundtrip would only be feasible if you wake up there and you reserve your tickets for the castles at an early time, especially during Oktoberfest time.

I don't know about Forgennsee, but as for the rest of it, it is perfectly doable. Herrenchiemsee is a lovely day-trip from Munich, and everything around your proposed Füssen trip is, right in the same general area, as you noticed. It's no problem to fit your plans there into one day. Just get started promptly, and don't spend 1/2 of the day shopping in Oberammergau. I agree with Tom that getting advance tickets to Linderhof would be a good idea. Probably not absolutley needed, but a good idea. Neuschwanstein is the place most tourists will be innundating, but as you aren't planning to tour it, you should be fine.

How are you travelling? Train or car? Will make a huge difference like the previous posters said.

I'm going to use public transportation, mainly regional bus (rov). Does that mean the round trip become unrealistic now? what are the differences?
