Battlefield Tours In The Ardennes?

I'm planning on spending a day or two in the area of the Ardennes during the first week of April. Does anyone know of a tour service that would cover the area of the Battle of the Bulge (Bastogne, etc)?

I don't believe there are any large-scale organized tours of the entire region (unlike the D-Day beaches in Normandy), as the area of the battle is large enough that you couldn't cover it in less than a few days. Also, because a nature park occupies much of the territory, not much was preserved specifically as a "battlefield". But given the name recognition, there are tours available around Bastogne, although I haven't personally taken one.

If you are interested in 101st sites in the Bastogne area, I highly recommend Reg Jans who owns BB Tours. He can be reached at bbtours@telenet.be. He is also on Facebook. Reg speaks French and excellent English. Steve W.

The company www.alpventures.com has a wonderful tour through Bastogne. It's not just a day tour, but goes through all of the beaches also. Check it out. I've traveled with them for the last 5 years, and will do another tour with them this year. I highly recommend them.

Mary, thanks for sharing this tour site. It is new to me.

Jim, we toured Bastogne and the Ardennes with Martin King...
From one of my prior posts: We traveled to Belgium in June 08 after 4 nights in Bayeux taking Battlebus tours of Normandy...then train from Bayeux to Paris, then Thalys to Brussels. Next morning we were picked up at our hotel by Mr. Martin King, with whom we traveled in his car for 2 days seeing the sites associated with the 11th Armored Division and Battle of the Bulge. My husband's father served with the 41st Recon Cav in the 11th. Mr. King (found prior recommendations for him on the RS site) is a Scotsman, semi-retired professor, who lives now in Antwerp, recently did a bit on Hitler's Trenches for the History Channel, currently working on a book about the Bulge. He does only occasional tours. His tour was not cheap, but we felt that what we saw and heard was so worth it. This was a once in a lifetime trip for us, and we could NEVER have seen all the places and known the remarkable stories that he was able to tell us. Here is his site: http://users.skynet.be/fa531049/home/index.html

We saw Bastogne, Malmedy, Houffalize, St. Vith, Foy, and more; the Ardennes is both magnificent and moving. We stayed overnight at the Hotel du Sud, a block off the square in Bastogne. It's a fine basic old hotel at a lesser rate than the hotels on the square. Our rooms were comfortable and there was Internet access, and included breakfast. We flew home from smaller and easier Brussels airport.

I was looking for the same information so all these replies were helpful to me also. But I wasn't able to get through to the website for Henri Mignon and I was only able to contact Reg Jans via Facebook. Does anyone have different websites for these two guides? Thanks.

I've traveled with Martin King twice, spending several days visiting both the Bulge as well as Market Garden. It was a great experience and incredibly well annotated. I'd highly recommend contacting Martin for a tour of the WWII Ardennes.

I toured Bastogne with Henry Mignon a few years ago and he was wonderful. We used our car and he sat in the back and directed my husband where to drive. We toured all over the area. Henry is a very knowledgable of the area and WWII. I would highly recommend him. We stayed at the Best Western that I believe is owned by a relative of his. The hotel is okay for the price we paid but is a little dated and old. The location is good and the owners were very nice. We were there in early May and the weather was great.
