Battlebus tour vs private

My husband has a medical condition that might not allow us to take the Battlebus tour. Has anyone ever taken a private tour of the battlefields? If yes, was this worthwhile? Was it expensive? Thanks.

Sharon,

I've never taken a "private tour", but generally speaking these are more expensive than a group tour (sometimes considerably more expensive).

I'm not sure whether a private tour would be much different than a BattleBus tour, except you'd be able to limit the duration. If you have particular concerns, you might contact BattleBus as I believe they also offer custom tours (but I'm sure these will be more expensive than their standard tours).

Good luck!

We just got back from our trip that included a couple days touring with Battlebus. I too have some medical problems that limits what I can do. I did NOT have any problems with the battlebus vehicle or felt that the tours were stressful on my body.
We had a gentleman who was an older (80's) man. The only place he did not get out of the van and join us was over the bluffs at Omaha beach, mainly because I believe it was spitting rain and he was worried the grass would be slick.
I can not recommend Battlebus highly enough. By far a very top notch company.
I do know they also do private tours, a little more expensive then their regular tours but in my opinion I would not choose anyone else.
I am very glad we chose to go with them instead of doing this ourselves. Dale took us to spots that there would have been no way for us to find on our own, and the stories and information he had was just amazing.

I would email Myriam or Paul with Battlebus and discuss their tours. They are so small that your husband's medical condition might not be an issue, but they also do private tours. In my book, they are SO worth every penny.

Not sure what your husband's condition is, but we toured ourselves, staying right on the beach at Arromanche (Churchill's Mulberry harbor) and drove all over the region including the German Cemetery, the fabulous DDay museum in Caen (2004 opening) and Bayeux, in addition to the glorious USA Cemetery. As we drove around the area on D roads we found memorials to Danish military along with other groups and great, non touristy pubs. George, Pittsburgh (p.s. We heard nothing but praise for Battlebus Tours, so agree with previous responders but thought to offer another option.)

My advice is to try your hardest to do a Battlebus tour, our American highlights 2 day tour was our favorite part of our one month european tour, they are so good, and will work with your husband.

My wife and I took the Battlebus tour, and it was excellent! The information, location of key points of interest, and pace of the tour was perfect! I would recommend the program without reservation!

My family and I did a private battlebus tours a few weeks ago with Sean. It was cheaper because there were 6 in our group, but unless you have that many it will cost you more. It was an ABSOLUTE blast. I was already interested in WWII history, but after the tour my interest is sparked even more! He came to our hotel to pick us up, showed us mostly American sites (per our request) and just told us unique, educational, fun, and emotional stories. I give our tour an A+ and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
