Hi Ed, I haven't done the BBus Tour but if you click on 'Graffiti Wall' above, then scroll down to 'Sightseeing' and then click on 'World War Battlefields' you'll see many comments from folks who have done the tour (or others).
I did the Battlebus tour May 2006 with Dale. It was well worth the expense. I also did the Band of Brothers tour, good tour also. For me it was good in that I didn't have a car, Dale (or any tour guide) knows how to get around and goes to to little out of the way places not normally known about. Most importantly, if time was not a factor one could do Normandy on their own, but time for most Americans traveling here I feel a tour is money well spent, you don't waste time trying to figure out where to go, have to read maps or just take the chance that you might get lost, which could happen very easily when you see the hedgerows! He also brings things into perspective with great detail on exactly what happened at the various places the tour stops. I tipped 10 or 20 Euros I think, between the 2 tours I spent 3 days with them, the BofB's was with one guide and Dale was on the American tour.
Ed,
I've taken both the American Highlights tour (Dale) and Canadian Highlights tour (Paul) with BattleBus, and both were excellent! I can't recall but believe I tipped Eu$10 for each tour?
I strongly agree with the previous Post, in that taking a tour is the quickest and most efficient ways to see the beaches and get a good idea of the events that took place on D-Day. I got lost just driving from Bayeux to Pegasus Bridge, so for those with only one day or so to spend in Normandy, it really pays to take a tour!
Dale also took our group to the small Church at Angoville au Plain, where two Medics from the 101st (B of B's) served, and that was one of the most memorable parts of the tour for me. The small farmhouse where we stopped for lunch was also outstanding - almost like a "mini WW-II Museum"!
I'd highly recommend BattleBus!! To take the tours, you'll have to stay in Bayeux at least one night, as the tours leave early.
Happy travels!
I've heard great things about this tour. We're booked to do it next Sunday, so I can't give any feedback yet but feel free to contact me after Easter.
