Baths at Baden Baden

My wife and I want to go to one of the baths at Baden Baden and are not sure which is the best. Both Caracalla and Friedrichsbad both look appealing.

There are co-ed areas in Friedrichsbad, but they close off the women's area on certain days of the week. Those days the baths are not co-ed.

Here is the link to the Friedrichsbad website. The Opening Times/Prices/Parking link on the left gives all the info about the co-ed stuff.

Friedrichsbad is more of a spa. Caracalla is less of a spa and has more of a water park feel to it.

For an awesome RS video on Friedrichsbad, check this one out. The only thing I would say from my own personal experience is that there aren't female workers on the men's side (unlike in the video).

I agree with the poster above, Friedrichsbad is much more old style, separate men's and women's facilities (Until the end) and follows a Spa treatment type routine. Caracalla is more water park and unstructured, go where you want, do what you want. We preferred, Caracalla since we could be together, and the jets in the outside pools are amazing. I also suggest tossing your inhibitions and go up on the sauna level, Co-ed, all nude. Boil in the sauna and douse yourself in the cold showers...absolutely wonderful.

I agree with the other posters try the Friedrichsburg baths. I had a hard time deciding to go because they are nude for the entire time. But it was an amazing experience. One you can't get in the states.

No one cares or notices you and at the end you can be wrapped in a warm sheet and blanket and left in a dark room to relax. Between the various pools of water and saunas by the end you are so relaxed it is amazing.

Beleive me it also makes a great story to tell everyone when you get home!!!

Definitely Caracalla! Much nicer, much more impressive and at Caracalla spa the audience is from young to old.

As Mark Twain said about the Fredrichsbad 'you loose time after 10 minutes' The Friedrichsbad is a unique experience and as a local I am there nearly every week. It is clean and quiet. No kids allowed. The bath has been refurbished recently. The Caracalla Thermal Bath is rather a 'fun bath'. Go also to the upper floors where the sauna baths are located. No cheildren under 12 are allowed.

I found Friedrichsbad very, very relaxing. Not wearing anything is part of the experience, and no one seems to be self-conscious. The soap brush massage feels great, and the quiet room at the end is peaceful and cozy.

Friedrichsburg definately! It was one of my best experiences there. At one point I honestly thought "now where's my servant to feed me grapes while I lounge!" A unique and freeing experience.
