We leave Paris by train for Germany ON the 14th of July. Wish we could stay for the party, but...cant.
What should we expect in terms of seats on trains, crowds, and general malaise in the system ?

You don't have to miss the party!
They start the afternoon/evening of the
13th. (They dance all night). Each neighborhood
fire department sponsors a dance).
On the 14th there's the military parade down
the Champs Elyssees, and the fireworks at night.

Do a "Bastille day" search in the upper right corner of this website and you should find lots of information. In general, everything will be more crowded, but in my experience, everyone was well behaved and pleasant. The day is just a good celebration.

We were in Arromanche on Bastille Day in 2003 and itwas great! Fireworks over the water in the evening, lots of families at the beach during the day! We loved it!
