We will be in Arles over Bastille Day. How does that area celebrate the day...any thoughts about what we should do/not do to get a flavor for the holiday?

There should be street dances on the 13th and fireworks on the 13th or 14th. There could also be a parade with children carrying lanterns at nightfall on the 13th or a local fair of. It's best to check with the Arles tourism office for details.

As with everywhere else in France it will be a busy period - have a look at their web site - http://www.arlestourisme.com Bear in mind that July 14 is sometimes referred to as the "Fête Nationale".

I was in Arles a few years ago on Bastille Day and there were fireworks.
