Planning to spend a couple weeks in the basque region in july, thought we'd rent a car in Barcelona and drive up to san sebastian. Looking for advice on must see towns, sights. There are 3 of us, we'd like a combination of hiking, beach and small cities.
Dawn 1. check www. Fodor's.com 2. go to center of page community travel and check in under Europe. This forum site has had several questions and responses the last ten day about this area. Maribel has responded to several of the questions.
3. Maribel's guides.com Be sure and open the enclosed sites in her responses.
4. Written references: 1. Rick Steves Spain 2. Fofor's Spain 3. Rough Guide The Pyrenees 4. Footprint Northern Spain 5. Lonely Planet Spain
We are touring Madrid to Basque & Pyrenees in May then joining Ricks tour in Barcelona. Enjoy your tour!

San Sebastian has a great beach but you also might enjoy driving into France to Biarritz it's another great beach town--it's only about an hours drive. You'll enjoy the food in the Basque region!
In the Barcelona region, go to Girona, a beautiful medieval town drenched with atmosphere. La Seu de Urgell near Andorra is a gorgeous mountain town, tucked away and surrounded by mountains and with a beautiful river running through town for rafting.
Pamplona is cool for the running of the bulls at the end of the month, if you can find a hotel room, and don't mind HUGE crowds. Very Ernest Hemingway!
Bayonne in France is a great town across the border, and San Seabastian is spectacular!! Enjoy!!!
