Looking for a recommendation on a good (preferably costal) town to use a home base for a few days of exploring Basque country including Bilbao, San Sebastian, and possibly into France (Saint Jean de Luz).

We have twice stayed at a Logis de France inn (logis-de-france.com) in Bidart, which is a small town on the coast just south of Biarritz. There is a great beach which was usually entirely deserted, prices for everything are less than in Biarritz or Bayonne, and it is a good base for exploring Basque France & Spain.

Hi Steve,
I think that San Sebastian is a great option--it seemed less expensive to us than France though, parking a car can be expensive in San Sebastian!
