Am going to be in this part of France. A friend was telling me of his experience upon leaving Lourdes and going to Pau and made a "wrong turn" and ended up driving on a rather treacherous road - steep, narrow, cliffs on the side, very little traffic, etc.finally arriving ok in Pau. I am adventurous (foolish?) and would like to also take this route. Looking at the map of France doesn't seem to help much. Has anybody had any experience/knowledge of this particular road? Many thanks in advance.
Never been there, but looking at google satellite, there is a road marked D918 that goes from a town a few miles south of Lourdes, Argeles-Gazost, up over the mountains with lots of switchbacks, cliff side cuts and drops into the valley at Laruns, south of Pau. Looks pretty hairy. Could be a candidate.
