Barging in Burgundy

Any suggestions for Barge companies (operators/agencies) in Burgundy region, France. We are contemplating a trip in early May.

Hi Mary Ann,

I would email Steve Smith at [email protected] or check out the Rick Steves France Book. Steve Smtih co-authors that one and has 2-3 barges that he recommends. Also, the most recent DVD on Burgundy has a shot on a barge and they refer to it there.

My wife and I are going to spend a few days near Beaune at the end of March. Have you ever been?

Thanks Nick. I'll check it out. Now that my 23 yr. old son has indicated an interest in joining us, I'm not so sure barging makes sense and single supplements are daunting. Never been to Beaune, but hear it's lovely.

My wife and I went on a barge canal cruise in Burgundy back in 2007. It was with French Country Waterways. It was a fabulous trip! Beautiful french countryside, wonderful food. we were spoiled rotten. It was not particularly cheap though. We were able to get a good deal because of a cancellation, but they sent us their 2009 brochure and it looks like their rates have gone up a lot. But if that is the kind of thing you are looking for I would highly recommend them.

Were you able to find any information on inexpensive canal boat rentals in Burgundy ? We'd like to cruise for 2-3 days in June. 2 adults and 2 kids. I can't find any info in the latest FRANCE 2010 book.

Merci !
