I have about a day and a half in Barcelona. I have always wanted to go there, and I have such little time, I want to make sure and get the best of it. Anybody have suggestions where to go/eat/areas to stay? ANY advice would be fantastic! THANK YOU!
Nicole,
Here is a map with some of my recommendations: http://quia-absurdum.com/barcelona/two_days.html
Enjoy your trip.
We stayed in the Las Ramblas/Barri Gotic (forgive my misspelling) area and loved it all. I'd defnitely suggest visiting La Sagrada Familia if you have time, too. The best part about Barcelona to me was the atmosphere of the city, though ... just wandering the streets and simply being there was pretty amazing!
I spent about the same legnth of time there in February. I love everything Gaudi, so the highlight of my trip was going into the Casa Battio (pardon the spelling). It was a bit pricy- 13,20 euro even with my student id- but absolutely worth it. The inside of the building is just amazing. I also reccomend the park guell, but it is a bit out of the way unfortunately. One more thing- if you do go up the Sagrada Familia- definately worth it- go for the line where you take the elevator up and the stairs down. This line is much shorter, key if you are pressed for time. Have a blast!
just got back - amazing city! Loved the Gaudi Cathedral and Park - also i hired a local guide from Pepito TOurs (like rick does) for a walking-food-tapas tour. Definatly eat at the market - BOCHARRIA with that shop in the front where all the locals eat - Pinochios! famous - and in ricks book. the guy is there from the photo - order the shrimp ala plancha - they were so fresh they were crawling out of the box in the back!
There are bus tours that allow you to get on and off as you please. I forget the name of the actual tour, but there are stops all over the city in front of the most popular sites. I think a bus comes about every 10 minutes. My job took a group to Barcelona and most of the people preffered this way to get around the city and see a lot of sites.
Otherwise, make sure to see St. Joseph's Market on La Rambla and La Sagrada Familia. The cafe's on La Rambla are overpriced, but the people watching is great.
Samantha's "St. Joseph's Market" is the official name for the Mercado (Mercat) de la Boquería that other people have been posting about recently. It is not to be missed.
