We would like to visit Barcelona (and Cadaques and Sitga) last week in January, first week in February. What is the weather like? We do not expect to be on the beach, just walking around in a windbreaker and warm shirt.
Not sure where Sitga is. There's a Sitges (catalonian spelling issue?) about twenty miles down the coast from Barcelona. I'd make it a rainjacket rather than a windbreaker, just because I always do. I assume a warm shirt is about as good as a light fleece. Figure it could get close to freezing in the wee hours, but probably not. Odds are, it won't get much above sixty. Who knows.
Hi Ed, Thanks for this. I appreciate your prompt and informative response. You are right about Sitges (I am just starting to inform myself about this). Should we expect much rain? As for the wee hours, we are too old for that. Best,
Chris
This site gives the last 10 years of actual weather, for the time span you'll be there: http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/index.asp Just input the location (if a rural location, then closest town or city) and your time span up to 14 days (example: Jan 25 - Feb 5)
Again, who knows. Most of the rain's in the fall, but I doubt if there are any completely dry months. I take a rain jacket to the desert - - and have used it.
Hi Kent and Ed, Thank you very much for your prompt and informative replies. Best,
Chris
If your blood is thick as molasses, or you grew up somewhere where summer is 50F, then I think you'll be fine with a windbreaker and warm shirt. Other than that, if you want to just use the windbreaker, you'll need a couple layers (including long underwear and a wool sweater or thick fleece pullover) underneath it. And don't forget your hat and gloves. Although rare, it does snow in Barcelona. And even when the sun shines, the temperature in Jan/Feb can be cold. Within the city center, you won't find much direct sunlight while walking through the narrow streets and tall buildings, which can make it feel even colder than the weather report says it is.
Hi Dina, Thanks for this. In fact, we live on the Canadian prairies, where it is normally -20 at that time of year. Nevertheless, we will take longjohns and T-shirts and fleece to layer. Best,
Chris
