Hello, Today I am in Barcelona on a 3 day trip and not seen much today. I have visited La Ramblas , market place and beach. I did not plan well and feel like I have wasted one day. My flight departs on Sat at 9:30 PM. So I have another 2 days left to see the City. I would like to see Church of Sacred Family and the Park Guell. I am staying close to Girona Metro Station. Please help on what else I can see. P:S we have 8 year old kid. We are not interested in Museum much.
Doesn't sound like a waste to me. Those things are part of what the city has to offer. Expect crowds. Try to have fun with it. Regarding the Church of Sagrada Familia: expect a very long line to get in. Park Guell was really, really nice. We went towards sunset and hiked up to the upper levels and enjoyed it very much. The other thing my kids liked was taking the cable car up to the castle on Montjuic. The castle was not all that special, but the kids enjoyed the cable car and the views from the top were nice. My wife and I also enjoyed finding a table in a small square in the old town (not far from placa sant jaume) and relaxing and having tapas for lunch. I know you said you don't go in much for museums, but the Picaso Museum was well worth it (to me). Anyway, hope your trip improves. Try to adopt a relaxed Mediterranean attitude and enjoy the ambiance of the place. Don't set unrealistic expectations. Have fun with it. All the best & good luck.
There's a lot to see at the Parc Guell. The best way to get there is to take the #24 bus to the Parc Guell stop. You can walk right in. Lots of Gaudi architecture in there including the world famous mosaic cameleon. Just outside the gate where the cameleon is located, there are several shops. Get your child a nice soccer T-shirt from the world champion Barcelona soccer team. The Sagrada Familia is a must see. If you and the 8-year old can take the height, also schedule to go up the small elevator to the top of one of the spires. It's really a treat.
Did you walk all of the way into the medieval part of town? Would second recommendation for the Piasso museum which is in that area. Even if you skip the museum you can stroll around. Very beautiful. You can walk back north along the street with the Arc de Triumph (name escapes me but lush and very ). Walk around the Pasage de grazia and areas off of it. Sort of Barcelonas version of 5th avenue. You could also do one of the open air buses that go all over the city for good overview. I didn't but spoke to people who enjoyed especially with limited time.
