I can't find any direct trains (overnight or otherwise) from Barcelona to Nice. The websites are very confusing when I tried to do a stop in between. I saw a flight on Vueling but I would prefer to do a train. Anyone know an easy way to get from Barcelona to southern France? My friend and I are going in early April and wanted to see if we could go overnight with no stops.
Unfortunately, rail connections from Spain across southern France and into Italy are very poor. All roads lead to Paris, it seems, so once you get off that grid, it can be very difficult. There are no direct train connections. The fastest way would take 11 hours through most of the day and into the evening, with three connections. And it'll be expensive. Unless you have some pressing need to see the scenery along the way, fly....the train will only be a good idea if you want to stop along the way, preferrably at the spots where there are long layovers as you wait for your next connection.
As Norm stated, there are no "direct" trains from Barcelona to Nice. You'll have to make changes.
Most of us use the DB Bahn website for timetables and routes. It's especially helpful for making intermediary stops.
I was looking at eurolines.com-the bus- and I do not read Spanish very well, but it seems that you can get a bus from Barcelona to Nice for 77 Euro, one way.
You can actually get a ticket for as low as 54 Euro, if you don't mind it being non-refundable. But both bus trips available are overnight (one arriving in Nice at 4 a.m) and take either 10.5 or 12 hours to make the run. Being that the distance is about 670 kilometers (about 420 miles), that seems to mean a lot of stops along the way. You're going to have to ask yourself if you can sleep well enough on a bus to make it worth your while....especially when a flight with Vueling will cost about the same.
