Barcelona, Southern Spain and Tangiers end of December, early Jan.

Looking to visit someplace not to cold over Newyears and into early Janaury 2012 for three weeks with my son (21), total 4 persons. Concerned that it could be to cold for us. We have been to Spain in the summer but he has part of Dec and Jan off for his last year in college. Would like to visit Barcelona (3 nights - never been there), Tangiers (3 nights - they have never been there), southern Spain for a week and possibly Madrid (2 nights if we have to due to airline connections). Do you think the ferry's will be running from Spain to Tangiers and which one would you take?

Try www.wunderground.com for forecasts for BCN and you can also get a history of the temps there during that time of year last year to get an idea.... As far as Tangiers....the city is really not a true reflection of Morocco at all. We only stayed there 1 night since we came across from Spain and it was too late to catch the last train for the day to Fes (where we stayed for 5 days). The ferry is always iffy... going to Morocco FROM Spain, we were across in an hour, no problems & easy-breezy. HOWEVER...Trying to cross back to Spain from Tangiers we were stranded in the ferry port for 11+ hours waiting for either the seas to calm, or a boat to be brave enough to travel back across to Spain. UGH it was a nightmare. (The boat finally pulled out at midnight, getting us into Algeciras at 3:00 a.m., where we huddled under a blanket on the bus station steps until they opened at 6 a.m.) If all you can do is Tangiers, i'd skip Morocco this trip and head over to Seville, if that city isnt already on your list, or just add those days on to Madrid!
Good luck!
