I will be flying out to Barcelona mid-February and I am considering making a side trip or two. I have a total of 8 full days to explore Barcelona and travel to nearby locales and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for me? Places I've been considering include Figueres, Seville, Madrid OR heading up to France and visiting Nice, Marseilles, Languedoc, or elsewhere along the coast. Thanks in advance!!!
A 'side trip' for us from Barcelona would be to Montserrat (amazing) or Figueres. Madrid is well worth visiting for at least a few nights. Are you renting a vehicle or going by transit? With 8 days, Seville might be best by plane and would be the warmest area in mid-February. With the time you have - we would probably just focus on northern Spain.
Thanks for the great advice, Bob! Not sure if we're going to rent a car yet, probably going to stick with the train or plane. After reading up on the Languedoc region in the winter, I think we're deciding against France and staying in Spain. As per your recommendation, I think that with the limited time we have sticking to Barcelona, Monsterrat and Figueres are our best bet. By train or by car? Still not sure yet...
Hi, I just returned from Barcelona. We did a 2 day side trip to Cadaques, Girona, Figures and Port Lligat. Renting a car was easy and the drive to the sea was beautiful. It was well marked and paved around the hills with edge barriers. My favorite by far was Salvador Dali's house in Port Lligat and Cadaques. If you are a Dali fan this is a great trip. If not I would skip Dali Theater-Museum in Figures and spend more time in Cadaques. The KLM November travel magazine featured Port Lligat, Cadaques and Collioure; we were right on target with our side trip. Have a great time.
