We are flying in to Barcelona in two weeks and staying at the Contemental in Las Ramblas. Any advice on how to get to the hotel from the airport? Also, what sites do you recommend we see? I was reading the archives about the cathedral and hop-on buses - any other places, sites, tips please?
Thanks!
The Hotel Continental is about 2 blocks from the Plaza Catalunya. The blue Aerobus will take you from the airport to the Plaza Catalunya. There are several hop-on/hop-off buses. I would recommend the Gaudi architectural treasures. This would inlcude the Sagrada Familia, the Casa Batllo, Parc Guell and others. Second would be the Modernisme architecture all over Barcelona. For the Parc Guell, don't take the metro. It won't get you that close and its a very steep climb. Take the No 24 bus to the Parc Guell stop and walk in. Third, the tapas bars. Our favorite was Bar Lobo directly behind the Hotel 1898 on La Rambla. Finally, the taxi fares were not expensive.
If you take the HOHO bus it will take you to Park Guell. I recommend the HOHO for such a short visit. I agree with Larry about Bar Lobo. The food is really good and don't forget a pitcher of Sangria to go with it!
We took the Aerobus. It was convenient from the airport and drops you in Plaza Catalunya. There is an option to take the train and metro into town; it's a little cheaper but not the easier option when you're coming off an international flight. Follow the signs to ground transportation, along the way we used an ATM, toilets, and grabbed a snack at a little newstand in the airport (you will also pass restaurants if you want to eat more than a quick bite).
