Barcelona Port and Sagrada Familia

Hi all: We are heading to Europe next summer... as part of the trip we are doing a cruise from Barcelona. We will arrive Barcelona the day before (was hoping 2 days, but flights didn't work out that way). So we will probably go to the Sagrada Familia the morning the cruise leaves. How long does it take to tour it? I think you can go to the top or something, we will probably do that too. We would be getting there right when they open. We are probably staying near there the night before, so we would walk over, then back to the hotel (about 10 min walk away). How easy is it in Barcelona to get a cab to take us to the port? Thanks!

Cab to port is not issue, just get a red striped cab (official licensed). Askthe hotel desk/doorman for estimate on cab fare. Most cruises depart after 4 and the cab trip should take 30 minutes from the Sagrada area. Arrive early morning and I would plan on three hours (including time to go up one of the towers - extra cost but well worth the expense). Sagrada is best as a day light experience due to the spacious interior and wonderful lighting created by the stain glass. Unless you are eager to be first on the cruise, you should have a couple of hours to do take in another activity. The prior evening I would spend Tapas bar hopping in old town. Safe travels. Steven

Make advance reservations so you don't spend anytime standing in line. Our reservation was for 9 and the line for those without resizes was already pretty long.

I was just in Barcelona. It took about 2-3 hours for us to see the Sagrada Familia. We did go up in the Nativity Tower. I'm not totally sure it was worth it, but it's not a huge extra cost to do so. You do need to buy your tix before - the line was around the corner and we walked right in bc we had tix already. You can book online or you can get tix from various ATMs throughout the city. Since you will have limited time, just book at home and print out so you have them. I would also get the audio tour. It is not hard to get taxis. You will be fine to take one from your hotel to the port. You might want to stay in the Eixample - closer to the SF.

P.S. This is not what you were asking, but since you have one night - don't waste your meal at one of the places on Las Ramblas. We ate at Xaloc the first night (in the Barri Gotic). EXCELLENT. http://www.xalocrestaurant.com/en/
