I would like to know peoples opinions on going to barcelona or milan..I know this is probbaly a dingy question since they are in two different countries..but we were trying to choose one...I am wondering because some friends of mine said there isnt much to do in barcelona and thats where we were planning on going :)
Thanks a bunch
I happen to like Milan because I think it is any overlooked city. However, given the choice I probably would opt for Barcelona just because there are more interesting things, especially architecture, there. How long were you planning to stay in either B or M?
Celina, i can only speak for Barcelona since i have not been to Milan. There is a lot of things to do in Barcelona enough to fill 4-5 days, and you could also do day trips to Montserrat, Figueres, Girona, Cadaques. I loved Barcelona!
I have not been to Milan, but I can tell you Barcelona is a nice place to visit. I was there this past January on the back end of a business trip. Also visited for four days on vacation in 2005. It's a three day city, four if one of the days is your day of arrival from the U.S. and/or you want to take it slowly. Barcelona is one city where you can see a lot in a short period of time -- it's east to be efficient there. Do not miss the city musuem, or the Parc Guell, the latter especially if the weather is good. You should also make it a point to tour either Casa Mila or Casa Bottlo. Sagrada Familia I found to be overrated.
Not much to do in Barcelona, huh? Maybe your friend was experiencing opposite day because there is soooo much to do in Barcelona. You have the Antonio Gaudi sites, including La Sagrada Familia cathedral that will tickle your senses, his apartments, his rooftops, his park. You have a wonderful Picasso Museum. You have las Ramblas, a lively long pedestrian street. An hour or so away you have the Dali museum in Figueres. There is a beach with sites in and around the beach (aquarium, I think, it's been 6 years since I have been there). I spent 4 days there and had a plate full. I am planing a trip to Italy right now and I have 1 day in Milan. Main sites seem to be the Duomo, The Last Supper, The opera house, and a ton of expensive designer shops. Only reason I am staying there is for The Last Supper and maybe the Duomo. Maybe I will have another opinion of Milan when I come back but I don't think they are on the same page for comparison because Barcelona maybe the grander of the 2. But that is just my opinion:)
I've never been to Barcelona but Kelly's right about Milan. I'm sure there are many things I overlooked but a bus tour took care of my interests pretty quickly. I chose to fly out of Milan in order to see the Last Supper but now that I've seen that, I have no interest in going back. I have almost no interest in going to Spain but if these were my only two choices, I'd pick Barcelona.
Been to both. Barcelona is the hands down winner. I'd consider Barcelona one of the best cities in Europe and it caters to a broad range of interests. Milan is interesting for a day or two, but for me that's about it.
Like beaches? Barcelona. Like art? Either city. Like night life? Edge to Barcelona. Like architecture? Barcelona. Like exploring winding narrow streets? Barcelona. Like shopping? Edge to Milan. Like food? Either city.
I would add that the best chocolate gelato I've ever had was in Milan...
I too have been to both. Barcelona by a long shot.
I haven't been to Milan, but recently spent three nights in Barc and could have stayed longer. There's plenty to do and see.
Thanks I think after hearing people opinions we are gonna stay with Barcelona..we will be there 3 nights
