Barcelona on a Sunday in May

My fiancee and I are going on a Mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon in May that leaves out of Barcelona. We are going to have sometime before the cruise departs and then we are staying a night in Barcelona after the cruise, however, both days are on a Sunday and going through the guide book I've noticed that alot of shops/resturants are closed on Sundays. So, I am just trying to get some ideas/information on what there is to do on a Sunday in May in Barcelona.

Hi Ashleigh, This isn't a huge draw, but it's one of the only sights I know of that's ONLY available on Sundays: locals and catalan nationalists join together to do the historic sardana dance in front of the main cathedral around 12:30 or 1 every Sunday afternoon. If you're in the neighborhood, it's worth stopping by this spectacle. Rick talks about it here:

Most of the museums are closed on Mondays but are open at least part of the day Sunday. The churches are generally closed on Sunday, unless you are attending mass (I'm not Catholic, so I don't do that). The beaches and parks will be open. May should be really good for that.

Walk Las Ramblas from top to bottom! Fascinating, just watch your purse.

Most museums, including Picasso, are open Sundays, and covered by an Articket (good for 3 months, so you can use at the front and end of your trip, see info on http://www.articketbcn.org/en/). I believe the cathedral is open in the late afternoon - definitely worth a visit. You might be able to hire a private guide to do a walking tour. If you Google "what is open in Barcelona on Sunday" there are several TripAdvisor forum posts with ideas for open restaurants.

Sagrada Familia is open on Sundays but sometimes will close early for a special Mass (as we found out the hard way), not sure if you can find that out in advance. Parc Guell is open on Sunday and full of visitorsI think all of the Gaudi museums were open on Sunday. The hop-on hop off buses run every day and you might want to take that on your first Sunday to get an overview of the city and decide what you want to see later. While some restaurants will be closed there will still be plenty that remain open, especially in the tourist areas. We did notice that Sunday evening was quieter in the street than other nights, but not dead by any means.
