I will be arriving in Barcelona on Sunday and a co-worker mentioned to me today that the tap water in Barcelona is unsafe. I don't recall hearing that before. True or false? Thanks!!
Absolutely false. Has your co-worker ever been there?
No, but her daughter was there as an exchange student. I had never seen or heard that anywhere, so that's why I thought I would ask.
The water is safe to drink. Spent a week in Barcelona last October and drank the tap water. No one in our family got sick. Have a good trip. It is a fun place.
Utter nonsense - but many people are affected all over the world by changes when they go to a different region or country, by how drinking water is processed. There is European wide legislation on provision of drinking water.
Personally I find the water in parts of Spain 'flat' and lacking (who knows what) compared to here in the UK.
Not a bit of truth to my knowledge. I have been all over Spain and had tap water everywhere, with no problem. And, if you have doubts, there is the bottled varieties available. Enjoy your trip!!
Thanks for the replies. I WILL drink the water...when I'm not drinking the wine! ;-)
Another friend of a friend who know the cousin of your uncle that read something about bad water in Barcelona. Actually I prefer Spain wine and save the water for the toothbrush.
Someone is pulling your leg, honey.
This is a perfectly legitimate question. The daughter in question may very well have had difficulty with the water. This is not because it is unsafe, but because people can have negative reactions to water they are not used to, as another poster mentioned. I have lived in several places in Europe and have traveled in many more, and I have never had trouble with tap water. However, I know of several people who had difficulty adjusting and suffered some mild tummy upset. These are friends and family I know personally, not friends of friends of friends who were just spreading nonsense. It may be unlikely for most people, but it does happen. So my advice is to go, drink the water, and if it should bother you, switch to bottled and see if that helps.
Thanks D.D., that is exactly what I will do. I leave in 48 hours.......I can't wait!!!
