Barcelona hotels

I have checked out what Rick says, but I would apprecaite what other folks have to say. Looking for a hotel in Barcelona in April/May. Any thoughts on: H10 Raco Del Pi Continental Palacete Thanks so much!

I am not personally familiar with either one, but both are well-located. H10 Raco del Pi is in Bari Gotic and looks very nice in the photos. Continental Palacete is way too ornate for our tastes, but the location on Rambla de Catalunya is excellent. We stayed near there and really enjoyed being able to walk everywhere. Our hotel (Hotel Jazz) had a rooftop terrace which we really enjoyed each evening at the end of a long day of walking. My husband even tried the pool, although it is too small for a real lap swim.

You might also look at the Hosteria Grau and the Hostal Campi. Both are very near La Rambla and both are reasonable.

The Hotel Continental Palacete and the H10 Hotel Raco del Pi are two fine choices. Of the two, I'd choose the Hotel Continental Palacete because of its location in the Eixample district. It's just 2 blocks above the Plaça de Catalunya (with its metro station) and Las Ramblas/Gothic Quarter, but far enough away to not be constantly surrounded by tourists and tourist shops. This is a more residential area and very very nice. It's my preferred area of Barcelona, in fact. The H10 Hotel Raco del Pi - is definitely in the Gothic Quarter, but also near the edge. That's good, yes, you're close to absolutely everthing. But the Gothic Quarter can also make outsiders a bit nervous with its dark, narrow, pedestriann streets, loud nightclubs and party-goers, the smells, the questionable cleanliness. I LOVE the Gothic Quarter, mind you, and I've stayed there overnight, too. But even I, a fullgrown man, felt nervous walking those streets (alone) after a late night dinner. This hotel is near the edge of the actual Gothic Quarter, which, in my opinion, is better than being in the center of the Gothic Quarter. This hotel certain does looks nicer, more modern, than the old-style, dated Hotel Continental Palacete, however, but you have different flavors there. You have to decide which makes you more comfortable. Why not give us your budget so we can recommend some others? Not sure if you're interested in "hostales" (smaller, budget hotels - these are NOT "youth-hostels"), but some can be very comfortable with more basic lodgings, some with elevators and some without. Best of luck! Saludos, MadridMan/BarcelonaMan
