Barcelona Hotels

We are arriving by train into Barcelona and would love some recommendations for hotel. Family of 4. One night then off to get on the Epic boat. Something reasonable. How far is the cruise ship port to Ramblas area?
thanks

Check out the Hotel Continental. There are two and both are good. Taxi to cruise ship terminal is minimal.

We stayed in the Hotel Granvia in May. Great bargain for us since we booked two months ahead- only 120 Euro for the room and a really good breakfast and free wifi. Primo location off of the Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, and metro stations. We took a taxi to the cruise port which was 20Euro with three of us riding in it with our luggage. I added 5 Euro for a tip since he had to work with our bags. The hotel was happy to call the cab, I think the ride was about ten minutes.

We (two of us) enjoyed staying at the funky Hotel Continental on Las Ramblas. For $110 EU/nite we felt it was great deal; especailly with the 24 hr beverage and food bar. Cabs are super cheap in Barcelona, and the walk from Las Ramblas to the port was not that far (although I would not want to do it with all of my luggage.)

Barcelona hotels in general are quite reasonably priced, unless you go for glitz and 5-star. And the taxis are plentiful and regulated, as well as reasonable. I suggest that instead of looking for a hotel near the port, you choose a hotel with family rooms near Placa Catalunya, at the top of Las Ramblas. Our taxi ride from our hotel there to the train station (Sants) was around 8 euro; yours from the station will be more as you have more luggage, but still reasonable. It will be easier to get a taxi to your ship from this area (broad streets, easily navigated) than from something deep in the old city of Bari Gotic. Once you are settled in your hotel you can stroll down Las Ramblas, see whatever else yo wish, and for dinner you will have lots of choices nearby in the Eixemple area. Or wander into Bari Gotic if you want something with outdoor tables on a small square, but go several blocks away from Las Ramblas to avoid the tourist traps.
