I'm going to Barcelona for four nights in May and looking for a hotel--all ideas appreciated!
I like the Aparthotel Calabria in the "Eixample" neighbourhood in Barcelona.
We loved the Rick Steves-recommended Hotel Catalonia Albinoni, one block south of Placa de Catalunya at Avinguda Portal de l’Angel 17, phone 933-184-141, www.hoteles-catalonia.com, [email protected]. Spent three nights there in December. A GREAT location, with easy walking distance to L'Eixample, Las Rambla, and Bari Gotic. Nice place with character and decent lounge. Wonderful breakfast space. Not cheap, though: was 180 Euros a night, breakfast included.
I am leaving Thursday for a trip to Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris. In Barcelona, we are staying at Hotel Pulitzer. I haven't been there before, but the website looks great. When I get back, I will let you know if it was a good place to stay.
I haven't stayed there yet, but I just booked at Hostal Goya (http://www.hostalgoya.com/) which I found through one of my favorite hotel sites, www.eurocheapo.com. It looks to have really good ratings on trip advisor as well. The rate for a double is from 70-80 Euros. I chose this hostal due to it's proximity to Las Ramblas as well as how close it is to Placa De Catalunya where I will be taking the Aerobus to and from the airport. Good luck in your search!
We loved Hotel Rekord www.hotelrekord.com. We had the loft room which was spacious although no view. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty.
It is very quiet by virtue of its location, but its steps away from the subway to whisk you anywhere. Also there are lots of great restaurants nearby that are frequented by locals and not tourists.
We stayed at this location for 5 days in 2008. We loved it, centrally located, 5 minute walk to Placa de la Catalunya (sp). We had a large room with bath w/o breakfast for 79 euros.
