My husband and I are are taking a cruise in Oct. As my husband isnt able to walk longin distances we are looking for a hotel close to Ramblas we would like a lounge & rest/snack bar if possible. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks kathy

Two very reasonable hotels near La Rambla are the Hosteria Grau and the Hostel Campi. For our recent visit, we stayed at the Hotel 1898 right on La Rambla. A bit more expensive but very nice and very close to everything. Bar Lobo is right behind the hotel and is rated in the top 10% of restaurants in Barcelona. Great breakfast and great tapas for dinner.

I enjoyed my 3 nights at the Regencia Colon in late 2010. It is located across from the Cathedral and at the end of the Ramblas. It is an older hotel but very clean and comfortable. It has a small bar in the lobby where I had a sangria but I did not try the restaurant. There are restaurants nearby (one which I can highly recommend) and also has a mini-market type store less than a block away. It is also near the hop on-hop off bus stop. I enjoyed my stay at the Colon because of its convenience; the staff at the reception desk were able to answer my questions but didn't seem happy

Last month we had a nice stay at the Hotel Continental Barcelona, Rambla de Canaletes, 138. Reasonably priced, very helpful and friendly people, 24 hour snack bar with coffees, wines, pleasant breakfast area and outside terrace. It is one minute walk from Catalunya, easy access to transportation and major sights. Not a fancy place, but an excellent value we thought for services and location. Also a discount for mentioning RS. Staff always promptly emailed respones to my questions (a good omen, in my book).

Thanks everyone! Leaning toward Hotel 1898 but am still considering Hotel Continental :) want to make rservation soon. Hoping rates will be lower in October:)
