I will be going to Barcelona for about 8 days at the end of March to visit our daughter who is studying abroad. I am looking for suggestions on places to visit outside of Barcelona for a 2-3 day trip or one-day trips around Barcelona. Ideas include Madrid area, Southeast coast, Seville area, Balearic islands or north towards San Sebastian. Any advice is appreciated.
Around Barcelona. If you like Dali, then consider swing through Cadaques and Figueres (2 day trip). If you want a wonderful day go up to Monserrat and then swing by the caves of Codorniu (1 day trip). Edwin
I have been researching for an early April trip to Barcelona also, and have seen a few things about a town called Sitges, not too far from Barcelona. It appears photogenic, but I haven't heard much about it. I'm curious what peoples thoughts are that have been there.
We are going for the same reason in Early March, but not for quite as long. We have heard that Valencia has a neat festival and they prepare for it all year long. If we had more time, we'd go there. (and, may anyway) You might want to look into it.
We enjoyed our stay in Sitges in April 2010. It is a nice beach community. Seaside promenade with small shops, assorted restaurants and hotels. The beach is sand not pebbles. A bit of an artists colony with a few galleries displaying local artists' work. Train to Barcelona is about 45 minutes(?). There is a nice sized grocery store next to train station. We really enjoyed our stay in Sitges and would return again.
