I read on another post this note: Nicest area of the city is north of Catalunya station in the Eixample neighborhood. If I was a rich man I would stay close to the Passeig de Gracia metro, as that street and Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes are extremely nice.
My request: I've been looking at zillions of options, from hostels and hostals to apartments and hotels. I'm getting stressed for time. Non-smoking, space for the other middle-aged woman and myself as well as my brother for part of the time. Walking access to at least some major sights welcomed. I'll try to remember you in my will if you can help with this!
So you need a triple room? I have seen them offered at the H10 Place Catalunya right on the square. No-smoking should not be a problem, as Spain went smoke-free (hotels, restaurants, etc.) in January 2011. (Hotels are allowed to have a few smoke-filled rooms, but for the most part they are all non-smoking. We detected no signs of smoking at all in any of our hotels our last trip in May of 2011.)
Thanks, Lola. I checked out H10 Catalunya, and it looks swell but was about $225/nt. I should've specified that I'm looking for something closer to $100 night. There are some apartments that would make sense for the three of us - and for about half the time (out of maybe 5-6 nights) it will be just two. If anyone knows of a good apartment from experience or word of mouth, that would be welcome. Hotel okay too, just looking at options. And trying to get a hundred other things done before the trip. Gracias.
Try www.airbnb.com. This is a very nice web site I found to get info about apts/ rooms from pvt homes. U may find some nice places near by . Good luck.
