Barcelona by train from-to France

Franco must have not liked the French, and the tradition continues.
If you come to Barcelona from France by train, you arrive at the train station in the northeast area of town (not the central station). This station is removed from the core of Barcelona. The subway is not right at the station, and there was no signage at the station as to its location (3 turns around blocks).

Our hotel was in the core tourist areas and we had a night train to Paris. The hotel offered to keep our luggage for the day after checking out. Rather than backtrack to our hotel to retrieve luggage we decided to check our luggage at the station in the morning when we were fresh and have it ready for our departure.

After hauling our luggage up and down steps at subway transfers and walking to the station, we found the doors of the luggage check station welded shut. All the signs to the luggage check area were intact. When we asked, we were informed the station no longer provided that service, we had to take our luggage to the bus station, about a mile away - walk it or re-do the subway transfer steps . Taxis are not plentiful at this station either.

When we retrieved our luggage at the end of the day from the bus station, there were lots of taxis. We decided to use one for the return to the train station. This was the only bright spot of this ordeal. Taxis in Barcelona are much less expensive than most large European cities. I paid 14€, including tip for the 4 of us and our luggage.

Spain uses a different track width than the rest of Europe. Therefore trains from France need special tracks and a special station in Barcelona. That's the reason why you can't arrive at their central train station....
