Barcelona Airport Or Girona Airport

Going to salou in June but each time I check out flights on the web it either says Girona or Barcelona airport.
Are they the same thing, if not is one very far from the other, and would train or bus prices to Salou be very different?

It depends which airline you're travelling. Ryanair uses two airports that are actually outside Barcelona, and require between a 60 and 90 minute bus ride to actually get into the city....Ryanair euphemistically calls them "Barcelona-Girona" north of the city (airport code GRO), and "Barcelona-Reus" to the south (airport code REU). Ryanair does have deals that offer buses that are coordinated with arrivals and departures....about 10 euro or so. If possible, try a discount airline that uses plain old "Barcelona," with the airport code BCN...that's most other airlines.

Norm, as usual, is spot on with his comments, but we need more details to give you the full scoop. If your options are Gerona (GRO), Barcelona (BCN) and Reus (REU) then, with a final destination of Salou, you should definitely pick Reus. Distances are as follows:
Gerona - Salou (192km); Barcelona - Salou (102km); Reus - Salou (11km). Time and price of transport will vary in accordance with distance.

Clickair.com is a low cost carrier that flies directly into the real Barcelona airport (BCN).

Ellen...I should have made it clearer...Reus is actually a little farther away from Barcelona than Girona is, but is closer to Salou if you're planning to go straight there (hopefully you will see Barcelona!). Check www.whichbudget.com for discount airlines that fly into Barcelona from your location. It also might be good, if you're flying from Ireland, to get to a place like Luton or Stansted on Ryanair, if you can find a deal, then take another discount airline from there if you want to fly into BCN.

hI, thanks all for your replies,
just checked out from Shannon to Luton, €60 for 6 of us, then Luton to Reus €60 also for 6 of us, will have to fly Girona to Paris Beauvais coming home, then Beauvais to shannon.
Does anyone ever query at check in desk why so many changes etc, will have a 4 hour wait in London Luton going over but am willing to suffer on to save that amount of money.
