Barcelona

Three 30-something females staying in Barcelona for 6 nights. We have found 2 very nice condos, one in Eixample (right) and one off of Las Ramblas, in Barri Gotic. Any recommendations as the nicer neighbourhood to stay in? The Barri Gotic condo is closer to El Born, but the Eixample condo looks like its in a nicer neighbourhood overall. Thank you!

You are probably right. For "nice" I would choose the Eixample condo. Barri Gotic may be more interesting with more places within an easy stroll.

i agree. i found the eixample area to be more upscale. i liked the el born area though and if i return to BCN one day, that is the part i think i would opt for.

Just make sure your Apt in the Barri Gotic isn't on a major shopping lane. We stayed off Las Ramblas on a street (Portifissera) with lots of shops and let me tell you just how loud it was....ALL NIGHT LONG. There is not such thing as an indoor voice when it comes to Spanairds/Catalonians when it is 3am. Plus church bells go off randomly at all times of the night, not even quarterly, I remember thinking, "why is a church bell dinging at 2:22am. I slept with my ear bud head phones the remainder of my time there.
If I had to return to Barcelona, I am not staying near Las Ramblas, or any of its side streets, nor am I going to stay by a church, as we had 3-4 different church bells to deal with. That might mean the Barri Gotic; I now there is the Cathedral by the Sea and the main Cathedral nearby. Might want to ask the manager of the Barri gotic appt on their take on church bell noise.

Eixample is probably also the safer neighborhood. Las Ramblas is the center for street crime in Barcelona. If you stay in Eixample you will probably end up using the metro or taxi(at night) to get around. It might be worth scouting the nearest metro station to see if the condo is convenient.
