Barcelona

I am travelling to Barcelona in September and not sure what clothes to bring. Are blue jeans acceptable to wear around the city? What about capri pants? I'm told to leave the shorts at home. Will I be OK with a pair of jeans, a pair of casual slacks and a pair of dressier black pants? Any and all advice appreciated (I am a 62 year old woman) Thanks!

I was in Barcelona last October and the weather was glorious. When the weather is nice, I like to wear capri pants. I usually leave the jeans at home. Too bulky and can be hot. I also bring some casual slacks. Leave the dressy stuff at home. BTW - I loved Barcelona and hope to return. It is a wonderful city, despite all the hype about pickpockets, etc. Wear your moneybelt.

In September you find very hot days (specially first days) and very good weather the rest of the year. The Jeans are too heavy to carry on, and hot too. Good look in my favorite city: Barcelona...

Lori, go to Weather Undergound.com and look at the average weather in BCN for the time that you will be there. Then look at the forecast two days before you leave, and finalyze your packing. Wear the same clothes there that you would wear in Reno, for the same temps. My wife, who is 56, wore her jeans, various lengths of capris, and dressy black pants, and maybe a dressy sweater for evening wear when we were there in May. Go to Google street view,"walk" up and down Las Ramblas, and see what people are wearing. It is not any different than here; anything goes. And wear your money belt!

Lori, I was in Barcelona for 9 days this May. I don't know if it was due to the wonderful beaches but I saw more shorts on men and women than I expected to see in a city the size of Barcelona. I was very comfortable wearing sun dresses rather than shorts, however. If you plan on going to the beach in Barcelona pack your shorts if not your swimsuit. Have a great trip. Deborah

In my opinion, leave the jeans at home. Too bulky and can be too hot. Casual slacks, maybe khaki pants but in my opinion, jeans not necessary. Yes, you can wear jeans but I think capris are better choice than jeans.

Go to Travelsmith.com and Magellan.com. They have wash and wear clothes. You can rinse them out in the hotel sink in the evening and will dry by the next morning. Look for clothes that wick away moisture and provide sunscreen. They are definitely more comfortable in warm weather than cotton. There are both casual and dressier clothes. Some mix and match. LLBean has great capri with lots of pockets made of the technical material. Travelsmith also has fanny packs and bags of all sorts with some anti-theft features, like clips to lock your zipper pull, steel cable in the straps to prevent slashing, wallets with clip chain.
Enjoy.
