My husband and I are living this year in Europe with our 4 kids (7-14yo). Our next trip is to Barcelona for a week in late Feb. We want to spend a few days in Barcelona and a few days somewhere else. To this point all our traveling has been in large cities. Where can we go to get a different experience near Barcelona? Somewhere the kids can be a little more "free" from having to be quiet and don't touch anything in museums and cathedrals. Also, I'd rather not have to travel very far to get there. Thanks for suggestions!
The beach sounds great, as do the 60 degree temps! Were you on Barcelona beaches or a smaller towns along the coast?
How about the Zoo or Tibidabo Park(there's an amusement park for them there).

Definitely look at Parc Guell - I think it's perfect for kids. When I was there, my first thought was kind of like it was a Disneyland designed by Gaudi......not that there are any amusement park rides, but it does have numerous places to climb, hide, and play. Check out the Tripadvisor review (http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g187497-d190624-Reviews-Guell_Park-Barcelona_Catalonia.html) and the photos.
Go to Sitges. It's a short train ride from the Sants station and it's a nice beach resort town.
Girona, north of Barcelona. I remember it being an hour by train. Nice old city, on a river.
