We are first time visitors to barcelona and will be there for 5 days. Please tell me the "must do's" - including any side trips. Is the sitges trip on that list of things to do?? Appreciate your inpute!!! Barbara
Sagrada Familia church is top of the list! Walking Las Ramblas all the way to the end at Maremagnum shopping center to have a drink overlooking the harbor, Casa Mila, Picasso Museum, Montjuic Castle for the view (taking the skytram up,) La Boqeria Market, and dining in the Gothic Quarter! The hop-on, hop-off bus is a great way to cover a lot of ground.
Just got back last week and we loved it. I definitely recommend Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell (bring a picnic for Parc Guell). The HOHO bus is a great way to get an overview of the city. Plan on spending the first day doing the loops w/o getting off so you can see the sights and plan where you want to go. Take a break between each loop for a meal or souvenir shopping before getting on the next loop. There's 2 bus companies and the routes are similar. One has 2 loops and the other has 3. You can buy a 2 day ticket if you want to use it as a source of transport but it really isn't the most efficient way since its pretty slow way to go. The metro or taking taxis work well. For a side trip, we did Figueres to see the Dali Museum. I think the train stops at Sitges before Figueres so you may be able to combine the 2. We come from a beach city but greatly enjoyed the beach in Barcelona. We went to the Port Olympic area. Why? There are friendly Indian/Pakistani immigrants that walk around selling monitors, sangria, and snacks. Then there are Chinese ladies that offer massages. 15 min for €5! That's a one hour massage for €20! Cannot beat that deal. They simply undo your bathing suit top and work on your knots. So wonderful! And the water is so calm that you can float on it. We can't do that here in HB!
Mojitos, not monitors. Spellcheck, grr!
