Hello: My wife and I are planning to visit Bamberg and Regensburg and Passau this September. Unhappily, Rick has no info on these cities in his guidebooks. Do any of you have any hotel and restaraunt reccomendations for these cities? Thanks in advance. Steve W., Dayton, Ohio.
We stayed in Regensburg the last two years at the Park Hotel Maximilian and the Weidenhof.
The Park Hotel M. was built in the 1800's to resemble a baroque palace. The breakfast room is very ornate. The room was large with separate rooms for toilet and bath. My wife loved it. I was less impressed. Good breakfast. Prices sometimes go into orbit. Two blocks from the train station on Maximilian Strasse, at the edge of the altstadt pedestrian zone.
Last year we stayed at the more reasonable Weidenhof, about a block deeper into the pedestrian zone. Good breakfast. It is a bit dated but still in good repair. The staff was very helpful.
We reserved both at hrs.com.
We had a good meal at the Kneitinger Brauerei in Regensburg.
Regards, Gary
Gary: Thank you. Steve W.
I visited Nürnberg and Passau in October and stayed in a pension in Vilshofen, just up the Danube from Passau. Pension Sagerer is nice - simple and traditional - only a short walk from the train station, and cost me only €38 per night for a single room with bath.
Lee. Thank you. Steve W.
Check out Lonely Planet or the Rough Guide, each of these has brief sections on all of the cities you mentioned.
Tom, thanks, I have both. Steve W.
